Cordillera Administrative Region, Philippines
To preserve its cultural uniqueness and to fortify its ethnic solidarity, CAR was carved out of the predominantly ILOCANO regions of Ilocos and Cagayan Valley. Located in the North Central portion of Luzon, the region is composed of six provinces, namely Abra, Apayao, Benguet, ifugao, Kalinga, and Mountain Province, and the chartered city of Baguio. Considered the country’s premiere highland region, CAR is highlighted by amazing sights, cool climate, its unique culture, and people. Benguet is also the leading source of highland vegetables for Luzon and Visayas. Dubbed the “Watershed Cradle of the Philippines, “ the region has a mountainous topography characterized by towering peaks, plateaus, and intermittent patches of valleys. The Car is endowed with abundant mineral reserves including gold, copper, silver, zinc, and non-metallic minerals like sand, gravel, and sulfur.
