The National Capital Region (NCR) or Metro Manila, serves as the capital of the Philippines. It is the country's economic, financial, political, and commercial center as it accounts for over 30% of the Philippines' GDP and roughly 40% of registered business nationwide. The sixteen cities and one municipality of NCR accommodate residential population of nearly 12 million people. Hence, it is no wonder that 3 of the 10 world's biggest malls are located in the Metropolis; ready to serve this huge and growing consumer market. Metro Manila is also full of palengkes - the Filipino style wet markets as well as tianges or air conditioned markets offering goods from regional delicacies to computer parts and gadgets. NCR has an extensive system of highways connecting the various cities and municipalities. it has two different rapid transit systems in Metro Manila: the Manila Light Rail Transit System, or the LRT, and the Manila Metro Rail Transit System, or the MRT. Logistics for trade is also a notable feature of NCR, as it houses major shipping ports and busiest airports. NCR also takes pride in housing more than 50 hospitals and tens of healthcare facilities, spas and clinics to care for the region's residents and visitors. However, what truly sets Metro Manila apart is its ability to sustain and showcase what is truly Filipino. It bares its small town soul with its distinct products and delicacies - from Ninay dolls and export-quality handicrafts to the famed balut, the savory patis and the Pancit Malabon. Metro Manila proves to be truly global, uniquely Filipino.
Malabon City is famous for the array of food delights it offers. Most notable of these is Pancit Malabon, a stir-fried noodle dish with a distinct yellow-orange color sauce that includes patis (fish sauce) and bagoong (shrimp paste). The list of delectable local food treats includes sapin-sapin, puto sulot, boras, puto bumbong, bibingka and the camachile.

The Higantes Festival in Angono, Rizal
Celebrated at the 23rd of November, the Higantes festival is a one of a kind celebration that flows with color and gaiety to the town of Angono. The main attraction of the festival are the “Higantes”, giants made out of paper mache which measure up to twelve feet in height and five feet in diameter.
Accompanied by the “higantes” is the patron saint of fishermen, San Clemente. The image is carried by devotees, along with the “higantes” and the “pahadores” (devotees dressed as either fishermen with fishing equipment or with just bright local costumes) on a procession throughout town until the event concludes with the image returned to its sanctuary.
