When someone talks about banana, the very first place that comes to mind is Davao region or it could be the other way around. For years now, banana has been synonymous to the region. It is a common knowledge that this industry has been among the region’s major economic growth drivers. However, Davao Region is not only about fresh banana and banana chips. It also boast of other industries which have played significant contributions to the unabashed regional economic performance. Based on the 2008 Export Performance Data gathered by DTI-XI, Davao region is also home to other thriving export industries such as coconut, jewelry, mango, papaya, cement , and some products. With this wide array of economic drivers, the region can proudly say that indeed we have a lot to be proud of. We also acknowledge the fact that without continued collaboration among stakeholders, these so-called potentials can never be maximized. That is why, we have put in place some innovative ways where the region’s private and public sectors collaboratively face the challenge. The successful implementation of the OTOP program in the region can be attributed to the commitment and cooperation among LGUs, government agencies, and private entities, and most of all, the MSMEs themselves.
