SPIN weavers showcase products during the Sandugo Regional OTOP Trade Fair 2009: Months after the Subcontracting Partners for Innovation Network (SPIN) program was rolled out to cleared conflict areas and marginalized sectors in Central Visayas, residents who have been beneficiaries of skills trainings conducted by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Cebu Gifts, Toys, and Housewares Foundation (Cebu-GTH) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines, have already delivered the booked orders of exporters.
Come and see what Central Visayas has to offer.

      Explore…

      Discover…

      And be delighted !

Each island in the region has a variety of food, fashion, furniture and fun offerings that are sure to enthrall local and foreign tourists alike – products and services that can only be seen in the area, those that are uniquely and distinctly Central Visayas.

Siquijor, with its natural water forms and deep blue sea, is a growing tourist favorite. Bohol, blessed with endemic natural wonders, offers peanut, ube and indigenous raffia products, among others. Negros Oriental successfully balances high technology with native products. Cebu, famous for its global furniture and fashion, combines the comforts of urban living with the rustic appeal of rural life.

The DTI, together with our partners in OTOP strives to further OTOP development in the region; seek collaborative partnership with more organizations; conduct more marketing activities and bring together business-matching activities.

But success of the OTOP in the region doesn’t just hinge on DTI alone. The program brings forth a platform for convergence of the public sector consisting of the LGUs and other government agencies, and the private sector. Together, they help create an environment where businesses can thrive and succeed.
Most of the region’s timberlands are denuded. Mineral resources, however, are abundant and account for one of the largest revenue sources of the region. These include silver, manganese, copper, gold, limestone, clay, silica and coal. Major crops are sugarcane, coconut, palay, corn and cassava. The waters surrounding the island provinces are well-known fishing grounds.
GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATION
Region 7 or Central Visayas is located in the center of the Philippines, between the two main islands, Luzon and Mindanao. It includes the islands of Bohol, Cebu, Negros Oriental and Siquijor and the smaller Camotes group of islands, Bantayan and Panglao. The region also encompasses the cities of Bais, Cebu, Canlaon, Danao, Dumaguete, Lapu-Lapu (Opon), Mandaue, Tagbilaran and Toledo. Its borders are the Visayas sea on the north, Bohol sea on the south, Leyte on the east and Negros Occidental on the west. The terrain is characterized by highlands with narrow coastal strips of arable land. Bohol, however, has a level plateau upon which its agricultural areas are concentrated. The region’s total land area is 14,951.5 sq.kms.
Sinulog Festival
The famous Sinulog festival in Cebu City is held every year on the third Sunday of January. The festival is characterized by a very long parade with many groups of persons dressed in colourful costumes, finding their way through the streets while dancing the Sinulog. To distinguish the festival from the popular Ati-Atihan Festival on Panay island, this festival is characterized by a different dance. This Sinulog dance, is now the traditional and ritual dance in honor of Santo Niño. The dance is accompanied by the sound of the drums: all the time moving two steps forward followed by one step backward. Though the dance is already very old, the parade is rather young! 1980 was the first year that the parade was organized.
